Common Causes of Lower Back Pain

Muscle Strain

Sciatica

Sciatica refers to pain and discomfort caused by damage to the sciatic nerve—which carries messages from the brain, down the spinal cord, and on down to your legs. Damage to this nerve can cause pain down your side and in your lower back. This condition is most often caused by a herniated disk in the lower back.

Scoliosis

Scoliosis is the sideways curvature of the spine, typically taking an S or C shape and diagnosed during childhood or adolescence. According to the American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS), scoliosis affects about 3% of people in the United States.
