Can Acupuncture Get Rid of Tinnitus?

In short, yes. Acupuncture can help relieve tinnitus and ringing in the ears. However, it is important to note that though it may be effective in stopping the irritating, high-pitched noise you hear, you may also need additional help treating the root cause of tinnitus.

What Causes Tinnitus?

Tinnitus may occur as a symptom of hearing trauma, which you may develop if you have been repeatedly exposed to a loud noise or involved in an event involving explosions or other loud sounds. You may experience such trauma if you have been involved in a car accident, explosion, major sporting event, concert, or any other such event.

Your tinnitus could also be a symptom of a traumatic brain injury, such as a concussion, or any other trauma to the brain, head, or neck. It is not uncommon for people who have sustained serious head and neck injuries to report tinnitus in the days and weeks following their accident. Temporomandibular Joint Disorder (TMJ) has also been known to cause ringing in the ears, due to damaged cartilage and muscle surrounding the ears.
